About Alia
For some people, Kent is typically 'English'. But there's much more to it than that. There's a unique calm here, a peace that from all the places I've travelled around the world, I've found only here. I'm originally from Kent, so you might say I would say that but I truly mean it. There's a great feeling of comfort from the rich, fertile countryside, the historic towns and the stunning coastline - which at sunset is really something.
For me, it's the perfect place to do Tai Chi, which I've been teaching in Broadstairs at the Daoist Internal Arts School for the last couple of years. It's all about health and wellbeing and came out of some volunteer work I did at chronic pain clinics with Matthew Brewer, the school's founder.
I have family all around the world and they are always finding excuses to come over and visit. They come here looking for a 'real taste' of England and they certainly find it - in Canterbury, for example, which is one of my favourite places in the county. But I reckon, deep down, they're just as drawn to that same subtle feeling of... I don't know, peace and comfort. I can't put it more simply than that. Though, come to think of it, all those quirky shops of fantastic local food help too!
