Richard Phillips

Job Title: Head Chef

About Richard

Richard's love of cooking and food has been greatly influenced by the county he lives and owns three restaurants in; Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells, The Hengist in Aylesford, just outside Maidstone and Richard Phillips at Chapel Down, set in a picturesque vineyard in the glorious rolling Kent countryside.

Richard was trained in some of the best restaurants and kitchens in Europe under the guidance of great mentors such as The Roux Brothers and Marco Pierre White. But his love of Kent proved to be the lure to bring him back from London to open his restaurants. The training earned Richard his first Michelin star for Thackeray's while he was still in his twenties.

Richard says he is lucky enough to live in a county rich in diversity of produce and livestock which employs great farming techniques to ensure that the quality of the food served in his restaurants is among the best available, and goes toward making his restaurants award winning.
