Down House is where Charles Darwin wrote his world changing book - The Origin of Species. It is a fascinating insight into the life of this man and his family and the house and gardens are well worth a visit (English Heritage property).

I went to Down House a couple of years ago. What a lovely day out. He was a prolific letter writer and had beautiful gardens. Well worth a visit. Take in the Roman Villa on the way at Lullingstone.

Down House is a really interesting place to visit. We were all made to feel very welcome. Both my children (2 and 6 when we visited) enjoyed dressing up and looking around the gift shop. We enjoyed learning about Charles Darwin's adventures and discoveries by looking around the house and gardens. Who would have thought the theory of evolution could be so interesting, even my 6 year old was asking questions and showing a real interest.

A fascinating visit to the home of Charles Darwin. In the garden is the greenhouse where he carried out research on plants and also developed his love for carnivourous plants and orchids, some of which are on display.
