Delicious afternoon cream teas enjoyed in the little bar area. Comfy sofas and armchairs and a lovely old world feel. The museum on the second floor (along the corridors and in open cupboards!) is so full of fascinating items from the past: prams, gloves, hats, costumes, old radios, books and even a tiny scullery! Lovely old Edwardian lift from the reception area which is also crammed with interesting historic items. Lots of artistic napkins (pictures, poetry etc from guests, some famous) on display too. Great fun, and all free to look at.

The Walpole Bay Hotel transports you back 100 years ago to the golden age of the British seaside hotel, from its beautiful flowered covered veranda, entering into the lobby is like being in a living museum (the only thing missign is staff in period dress!). The Walpole thrives on its traditional image, and the ancient lift to the upper floors is just one small detail which provides a authentic feeling. The rooms are small and traditional, and ensuites have been added where the facilities were seperate in days past. The rooms boast great panoramic views either towards Margate, or down the coast. The restaurant has a good reputation for evening dining, however the breakfast is superb and rounds off a truely "historic" experience.
